slyborgCheck in on the manga auto-translate/typeset space maybe every 6 months or so, last time I checked background text and sfx were still not really well handled. But I’ve started using a locally-hosted model for cleaning such text, and … it works. Like, this has replaced using CAF and the Holy Ten Pixel White Stroke for redraw for me. It’s slow, but so am I, and it’s zero effort.
If I’m doing this on a Mac Mini at 75W, commercial companies that can offload to data center models should be doing this at scale. I don’t know for fact if Viz or the other big publishers are already doing automated MTL publication but if not, it’s probably less than a year out.
