I hate that we need to keep repeating it, but tools that steal copyrighted work are ethically atrocious and should not be allowed to thrive. Generative AI tools that steal copyrighted work are wrong on every level.

Pam Walls' video explains this perfectly: https://youtu.be/Ci5pOjyJknI?si=DdEL4AUKjYVCZ4-z

AI Art - what it is, what it is not and what it could be (Topic Discussion) - Tabletop Games Blog

Based on another suggestion from the wonderful Bez from Stuff by Bez, in this article, I want to look at the rise of so-called AI art. I want to describe what I mean when I talk about AI art, explain what I think it is not, despite people claiming otherwise and the creative potential of this new technology.

My updated review copy submission guidelines now contain a paragraph explaining that I will not review games that use AI tools that don't fully rely on artists actively opting into their work being used. https://tabletopgamesblog.com/review-copy-submission-guidelines/ #SayNoToAIArt (Image by bizarrecandy on DeviantArt)

I've recently been interested in visual writing prompts, seems they're getting popular in here.

The issue is that they're often generated using Midjourney, one of those pesky AI engines that were created by sucking art from unaware or unconsenting artists.

Everytime you use AI Art, no matter how pure your purpose is, you're normalizing the privatization of art that people like you or me did, to crunch it and resell it on behalf of megacorporations.

For that reason I'm muting these posts from now on. Every time I want to participate, I think of all artists who are now unemployed because "using an AI is cheaper". I cannot in good conscience endorse the usage of any tool that was created using automated plagiarism.

Artists sue AI art generators over copyright infringement

A group of artists have filed a class action lawsuit against Midjourney and Stability AI, companies behind Midjourney and Stable Diffusion, and DeviantArt, which recently launched its own artificial intelligence art generator, DreamUp.

So the opt-out option from Stability AI is nice in theory but as the Ars Technica article points out, the reality is it's going to be hard to do if copies are already out there: https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2022/12/stability-ai-plans-to-let-artists-opt-out-of-stable-diffusion-3-image-training/
