If Highway 413 goes ahead, it will rip through some of southern Ontario’s last remaining countryside, cutting down forests and threatening precious farmland and species at risk.
It will destroy wetlands and pave 8.8 million square metres of ground.
And it will divert billions of dollars from transit solutions, like electric buses and light rail, that could address the climate emergency.
But Highway 413 can still be stopped, if the federal government says No!

Whoo Hoo! Ford backed down! He say he was sorry for breaking his promise. All Green belt lands are going back to protected status. While I applaud him for doing this, it should NEVER have happened.
Also, the very very cynical part of my brain is saying that something big has happened that we don't know about yet, and Ford is trying to get in front of it.

In spite of massive protests, the Ford government is pushing ahead with development of the Greenlands as quickly as possible. Ford has altered the regulations 3 times since October.

“The changes, introduced Thursday, include an overhaul of planning and growth rules in southern and rural Ontario that critics said would weaken environmental oversight, contribute to the disappearance of vital farmland and mandate sprawl.”

“Doyle said a rush of speculation on the Greenbelt raises the risk that the edges of the Greenbelt will be gradually whittled away. Even if the province continues to add land elsewhere to compensate for losses, the Greenbelt could gradually migrate away from the Greater Toronto Area, where there’s already not much green space left to sustain farming and prevent flooding.”
