@cbcbc_mirror This screams for a complete overhaul of BC Forest Practices. 6yrs ago there was a thorough and comprehensive review which made 14 recommendations for the best way to treat our forests moving forward. Those recommendations were accepted and some deferral of logging in what is left of our precious Old Growth was implemented. Today the logging in these deferred areas are now being logged at an increased rate. This has to stop!

How do we prop up the soft wood lumber industry when there are no more 2x4s ?

Did you know that the fastest growth of “harvesting” in #BritishColumbia is taking place right now in our last stands of #OldGrowthForests ?
A lot of these stands are WITHIN deferred logging areas as laid out in the now 5 year old 14 Recommendations to the Forest Practices Code in BC. We simply can’t allow this to happen any longer.

Take a stand for our irreplaceable forests. Let the BC NDP government know that WE DO NOT SUPPORT the accelerated logging of the last remnants of old-growth forests.

Report: Endangered old-growth forests identified for interim protection targeted by logging industry by forester Dave Daust and ecologist Karen Price, released just this week, reveals that at-risk old-growth forests recommended for deferral are being clearcut four times faster than other old growth.
