The agencies meant to protect Lough Neagh issue meaningless press releases. What they won’t tell you: phosphorus levels have gone UP since last year’s catastrophic blooms. Careful words won’t save the lake. We need action — not more empty statements.
AidanK 🇵🇸🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️Lough Neagh, Ireland’s largest lake, on Saturday last. Despite living here for about a half century I've never got such a view of it or realised how damn beautiful it is. That's because the lake and most of its shoreline are in private hands, due ultimately to colonial violence.
"Damn" beautiful because the shimmering azure surface hides an ugly reality- after decades of struggling, Lough Neagh's ecosystem is now dead, from unregulated agricultural and industrial pollution.
11th July 7pm Slí Eile - Action for a Planet Beyond Capitalism is hosting a webinar in preparation for Climate Camp 2024.
The camp will take place from 7th-11th August in Ardboe, on the western shore of Lough Neagh.
Save Lough Neagh will present the situation at the lough and their work to improve this. We will also have a speaker from Save Our Sperrins and an introduction to the Climate Camp.
