A β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜… review of Project Wolf Hunting (2022)

Switches gears at breakneck speed, jumps into flashbacks numerous times, and just keeps adding genres to the mix- and all the while, never loses the thread. Relentlessly action packed and probably the bloodiest movie ever made. It's a hell of a ride!

First up...

Bells of Death (1968)
Yueh Feng (director)

As with many of these '60s wuxia, been so long since I've seen this, it may as well be the first time.

The Jade Raksha (1968)
Ho Meng-hua (director)

Tonight's first movie...
Not sure if I've seen this one.
It stars Cheng Pei-pei.

Golden Swallow (1968)
Chang Cheh (director)

Another five-star classic.
What was intended to be a sequel to Come Drink With Me ended up being a bit of something else.

Infernal Affairs 3 (2003)
Andrew Lau and Alan Mak (directors)

This one had a reputation for being terrible but it isn't.
While it's not a strong story like the prior two, the way it examines those films is an interesting trip.

A β˜…β˜…β˜… review of Infernal Affairs III (2003)

Unnecessary? Probably. It's also somewhat of an exercise in tonal whiplash. But as an examination of the prior two films, it works out quite well. I do very much like the way it eventually shows the holes left in wake of chaos.

First up tonight-

Tiger Cage 2 (1990)
Yuen Woo-ping (director)

Nothing like Donnie Yen tearing up the screen for 96 minutes of over the top chaos.

Winners and Sinners (1983)
Sammo Hung (director)

First up tonight, an '80s action/comedy classic.
Jam-packed with ridiculous gags and action. Sammo, Richard Ng, Jackie Chan, and I can't possibly name everyone else.
Never fails to make me laugh myself silly.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000)
Ang Lee (director)

Last saw this, about 20 years ago. Long overdue for a revisit.

It's really pretty terrific, yeah?

Brave Archer and His Mate (1982)
Chang Cheh (director)

First up tonight-
Unofficial sequel to the three prior films. I'm not sure I've seen this one before.

Brave Archer 3 (1981)
Chang Cheh (director)

First ap tonight is the third part of Chang Cheh's adaptation of Legend of the Condor Heroes.
I love this epic.
