Photographic ode to old vines other than Zinfandel

Plus the fascinating stories of the long forgotten Santa Cruz Island Wine Company and Angelica wines

OK I'm actually planning a trip to the #ChannelIslands (off the coast of Santa Barbara)

I'm looking at #SantaCruzIsland definitely but there are two sides and trying to figure out if it would be silly to go two days in a row (day trips; I don't camp) for the two different sides.

There are two more islands I want to go to also: #Anacapa and #SantaRosaIsland

So I need to determine if 4 different day trips to islands (the ferry ranges from 1 1/4 hours to 2 1/2 hours each way depending on the island) over 5-6 days will get boring or if because I have books and love boats and islands and nature, it will be awesome. (I have to buy tickets ahead of time)

Hmm, possibly some kind of rescue on Santa Cruz Island, per VCFD dispatch radio. #ChannelIslandsNationalPark #SantaCruzIsland
Thick as Thieves
The tiny Santa Cruz Island Fox does not obey signs about where it should go or what it can eat. The size of a housecat, they are the island’s adorable apex predator. #naturephotography #nature #photo #photography #birds #birders #birdwatchers #birding #California #birdwatching #ChannelIslands #DailyBird #BirdsOfPixelfed #BirdsOfMastodon #SantaCruzIsland #cute #adorbs #apexpredator

@headlines_bot (from personal knowledge) the remaining ants are all in the old fruit tree groves. Surprisingly, there are a bunch of cherimoya trees where the ant problem is, among other plants (you'd think cherimoya would be quite exotic to have been planted back in the ranching days, but apparently not). #SantaCruzIsland
The Island Scrub Jay is North America’s only insular endemic landbird, having evolved in isolation for an estimated one million years. #naturephotography #birds #birders #birdwatchers #BirdPictures #LandBirds #NaturePhotography #BirdPhotography #CaliforniaBirds #ChannelIslands #ChannelIslandsNationalPark #BirdsOfPixelfed #birding #IslandScrubJay #ScrubJay #SantaCruzIsland
