Ha alle spalle oltre vent’anni di carriera e ha firmato almeno 500 videoclip in Italia e all’estero (“In Italia ho lavorato con cantanti dei generi più disparati, da Fabio Rovazzi a Ornella Vanoni passando per J-Ax e Paola Turci”). Claudio Zagarini si racconta a Il Corriere della Sera e rivela alcuni aneddoti divertenti, avvenuti nel backstage di qualche set: “Negli Stati Uniti ho lavorato molto con Snoop Dogg: potete immaginare come si presentava sul set. Ogni tanto chiedeva quanto mancasse dopo cinque minuti. Una cantante, invece, non iniziava le riprese senza una bottiglia di grappa”.
L’artista che ha catturato l’attenzione di Claudio Zagarini è stata Rita Pavone: “È instancabile, ha un’energia pazzesca, superiore a quella di molti giovani. Il videoclip di Niente (Resistenza 74) con cui ha partecipato a Sanremo nel 2020 l’abbiamo registrato in una giornata sola. Per un video con Rovazzi è servita quasi una settimana…”.
Sulle location che gli sono rimaste impresse non ci sono dubbi: “Negli Stati Uniti, a New York: un campo di football americano asfaltato in cui erano state girate anche alcune scene della serie di film d’azione ‘Fast and furious’. In Italia invece l’Ex Teatro Nazionale, nel cuore di Firenze, per ‘Fiera di me’ di Irene Grandi. Ci siamo mossi tra travi e ponteggi perché era in restauro, però si respirava un’atmosfera magica”.
Poi un primato, il primo video realizzato con IA per il singolo di Eros Ramazzotti e Max Pezzali “Come nei film”: “È il primo al mondo realizzato interamente con l’intelligenza artificiale. Dai momenti in cui Eros e Max sono bambini e adolescenti, alle scene finali in cui si sono seduti al cinema ormai adulti è tutto frutto della tecnologia. Le uniche immagini reali sono quelle dei loro concerti. Io e Giovanni Abitante (il co-regista, ndr) abbiamo lavorato 19 ore al giorno per cinque giorni, ma ne è valsa la pena”.

He has over twenty years of experience in the industry and has directed at least 500 music videos in Italy and abroad (“In Italy I’ve worked with singers from the most diverse genres, from Fabio Rovazzi to Ornella Vanoni, passing through J-Ax and Paola Turci”). Claudio Zagarini tells Il Corriere della Sera and reveals some funny anecdotes that happened backstage on a few sets: “In the United States, I’ve worked a lot with Snoop Dogg: you can imagine how he presented himself on set. Every now and then he would ask how much time was left after five minutes. A singer, on the other hand, wouldn’t start filming without a bottle of grappa.”
The artist who caught Claudio Zagarini’s attention was Rita Pavone: “She’s tireless, she has incredible energy, superior to that of many young people. The music video for ‘Niente (Resistenza 74)’ with which she participated in Sanremo in 2020 was filmed in a single day. For a video with Rovazzi, it took almost a week…”.
Regarding the locations that have remained etched in his memory, there’s no doubt about them: “In the United States, in New York: an American football field that had been asphalted, where some scenes from the ‘Fast and Furious’ film series were also filmed. In Italy, the Ex National Theatre, in the heart of Florence, for ‘Fiera di me’ by Irene Grandi. We worked among beams and scaffolding because it was under renovation, but you could feel a magical atmosphere.”
Then a record, the first video made with AI for Eros Ramazzotti and Max Pezzali’s single “Come nei film”: “It’s the first one in the world made entirely with artificial intelligence. From the moments in which Eros and Max are children and teenagers, to the final scenes in which they sat in the cinema as adults, it’s all the result of technology. The only real images are those from their concerts. Me and Giovanni Abitante (the co-director, ed.) worked 19 hours a day for five days, but it was worth it.”
