L'impatto sui fan e l'immagine dell'artista

Dua Lipa sues Samsung for illicit use of her image: $15 million is sought.

Dua Lipa has sued Samsung in a California court for using her image on TV packaging without authorization. The artist is seeking at least $15 million in damages, according to the complaint filed four days ago in a federal court in Los Angeles and viewed by AFP.

The photograph at the center of the dispute was taken backstage at the Austin City Limits festival, where Dua Lipa performed in 2024. The singer and co-writer of hits “Levitating” and “Don’t Start Now’s” lawyers argue that Samsung never asked permission to use the photo.

Dua Lipa's request and Samsung's response

In June 2025, Dua Lipa asked Samsung to stop putting her face on the cardboard of its TVs. All in vain. According to her lawyers, the South Korean group continues to sell products in the United States whose packaging includes this photo. Contacted by AFP, Samsung stated that the image had been sent by a content provider for its Samsung TV Plus free streaming service, with the guarantee of having obtained the necessary permissions. The South Korean group therefore denies acting knowingly and says it “remains open to a constructive outcome with the lady Lipa’s team.”

The impact on fans and the artist’s image

The artist, whose parents come from the Albanian community of Kosovo, listed several messages posted on social networks by her fans claiming they bought a Samsung TV because her photo was on the packaging. “Mrs. Lipa is very selective about her commercial partnerships and has developed a high-level image by carefully choosing prestigious sponsors,” her lawyers said. Consequently, they assure that even if she had had the opportunity, the singer “would not have wanted to associate her name and image with the alleged products.”
