How Erin Brockovich is taking on AI data centers!

DESCRIPTION:
Erin Brockovich just built a free map showing where AI data centers are being built across America, so communities can finally see what's coming to their own towns and fight back.

The woman who once took down a billion-dollar power company is now taking aim at the AI industry.

There are now more than 4,200 AI data centres across America, that use enormous amounts of water and power, and they're going up town by town, often before locals even know.

So Erin built a website that tracks them, along with the complaints people are raising, and she's already had thousands of reports from nearly every state.

Zoom into almost any state and you can see what's running, what's being built, and what's just proposed.

And it's already working.

Just this week, voters in Monterey Park, California, chose to ban new data centres outright — one of the first places in the US to do so.

And from Denver to Reno, dozens more towns have hit pause, nearly 70 so far, until they get proper rules in place.

Share this so more people can stay in the loop and know what's being built near them!

Kenyan Hero turns Invasive Plant into Plastic Replacement!

URL:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L55lOviEVvE

DESCRIPTION:
This guy from Kenya is turning one of the world’s most invasive aquatic plants into plastic alternatives!

This is Joseph Nguthiru, a Young Champion of the Earth.

And with his company Hyapak, he’s transforming water hyacinth into packaging and everyday products.

Water hyacinth spreads rapidly across lakes and waterways, it disrupts ecosystems, kills aquatic life, and makes fishing, transport, and irrigation difficult.
And because it grows so fast, it’s incredibly hard to control.

But Joseph found a way to turn that into an advantage.
By extracting fibres from the plant, his team created a durable material that can be moulded into things like bags and wrappers.

They even work with the local fishing communities to harvest and dry the hyacinth.

This helps clear waterways while also creating income for local people, supporting over 45 green jobs so far!
The final product can be used just like conventional plastic packaging, but unlike plastic, they break down naturally within months.

How farmers in the Philippines fight pollution with coconuts!

URL:

DESCRIPTION:
This is how coconuts are fighting pollution!

Farmers in the Philippines are turning coconut waste into natural insulation that
can replace plastic styrofoam, and they're making these awesome coolers with them.

Let me tell you how they do it.

Every year billions of coconut husks are burnt as waste as a by-product of making coconut oil but Tamara and David developed a way of giving waste coconuts a new life whilst helping local farmers too.

First they gather waste husks from farms and bring them to a factory where they are processed into fibre.
This fibre is stitched and then fused together by a hydraulic press to create insulation panels.

These panels are then cut to the perfect size to fit inside these nutshell coolers.

Each cooler uses 37 coconut husks and the shell is made from 50 recycled plastic bottles.

So far they've saved over 240,000 coconut husks from just being burnt as waste.

Solutions like this could also help replace all that plastic foam that's found in so many products that's hard to recycle,
and you've probably seen floating in water at some point.

And they also help provide an extra income for farmers in the Philippines too.

Hit that like button if you love this idea instead of plastic and drop your thoughts on this in the comments!

Turning desert air into drinking water!

URL:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmM1pH0rp-E

DESCRIPTION:
This water harvester can turn desert air into drinking water!

Nobel Prize-winning chemist, Omar Yaghi, invented a machine capable of harvesting clean water from even the driest air.

He’s scaled this technology up into units that can produce 1,000 litres of drinking water a day.

It can produce up to 1,000 litres a day using minimal energy and no centralised infrastructure!

The system designed works by using specially engineered materials that capture moisture from the air and turn it into drinking water.

Developed by his company Atoco, the units are about the size of a shipping container and can run entirely off low-grade thermal energy, which means they can operate even when electricity and water systems fail.

Yaghi says the technology could help communities hit by hurricanes or droughts, especially small island nations in the Caribbean where storms can knock out water infrastructure for weeks.

So solutions like this could be a lifeline for the 2.2 billion people worldwide that lack safely managed drinking water.

Tap like and follow to hear about more solutions helping communities access clean water.

Graffiti Covered Walls Turned Into Wildflower Meadows!

URL:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujzpHeAfvoI

DESCRIPTION:
Graffiti covered walls are being turned into wildflower meadows, and it’s helping clean the air, reduce noise, and bring wildlife back to cities!

This is Meadowall, a system created by Habitat Horticulture that turns blank city walls into vertical ecosystems.

Special panels made from recycled plastic bottles are pre-seeded with native wildflowers and grasses that are then easily installed onto chain link fences or walls. With simple irrigation systems running along the top.

Within a few weeks, they begin to bloom, transforming bare walls into thriving habitats for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.

And it’s not just good for wildlife!

These living walls can reduce noise by up to 15 decibels, filter pollution from car exhausts, and even improve mental wellbeing by bringing more greenery into cities.

And maintenance is super easy, just a prune a couple times a year, and checkups to the watering system. With plants lasting for at least 5 years before needing to be reseeded.

Imagine if more of our cities looked like this.

DESCRIPTION:
The 6 winners of the "Green Nobel Prize" were announced, and for the first time in the award's history, they're all women!

One winner was picked from each region of the world so let's see who won in yours.

In Alaska, Alannah Acaq Hurley helped block a massive mining project to protect Bristol Bay , home to 50 million wild salmon, and one of the last intact ecosystems of its kind.

In Nigeria, Iroro Tanshi protected an endangered bat species by building a community wildfire-prevention network that now keeps over 1,000 hectares of forest safe.

In South Korea, Borim Kim led Asia's first successful youth-driven climate lawsuit, a ruling that could prevent up to 2 billion tons of CO₂, roughly three years of the country's entire emissions, from entering our atmosphere.

In Papua New Guinea, Theonila Roka Matbob held mining giant Rio Tinto accountable for dumping 150,000 tons of toxic waste a day from the abandoned Panguna mine.

Sarah Finch took an oil company to the Supreme Court — and won! Forcing the UK to account for ALL the damage a fossil fuel project causes and it’s already blocking the dirtiest projects from getting off the ground.

And in Colombia, Yuvelis Morales Blanco helped stop commercial fracking after an oil spill devastated her community.

Her youth movement drove the court rulings that blocked the projects for good.

Which story was your favourite?

Moss Walls are helping cities breathe!

URL:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXj8Wdol5eE

DESCRIPTION:
We can turn grey concrete walls into living green surfaces that help clean our air, using this simple technique!

It’s been developed by Respyre, based in the Netherlands, and they’ve designed a way to grow moss directly onto buildings!

Here’s how it works.

First, they apply a special bioreceptive concrete layer to a wall.

This concrete is designed to hold moisture and create perfect conditions for moss to grow.

Then, a moss coating is added, containing selected moss species and nutrients.

Over around 12 weeks, the moss establishes itself and spreads across the surface.

The result is a self-sustaining green wall that survives on rainwater alone, with no permanent irrigation needed!

One of the big questions I had about this was won’t it make the building super damp?

Apparently not, the moss only grows on the top concrete layer and actually protects the structure underneath from weathering.

Cities are dominated by concrete that traps heat and worsens air quality. But moss changes that.

It filters dust and pollution, absorbs CO₂, releases oxygen, and helps cool buildings.

With so many plain walls in cities, could moss be a solution to turn these spaces into living infrastructure that actually helps the environment!

What do you think?

Let me know your thoughts in the comments!
