𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝘂𝗺𝗮 𝗗𝗮𝘆 — 𝟭𝟳 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱

Today we remember victims of traumatic injury and recommit to prevention, timely care and community action. Trauma—from road crashes, falls, burns, interpersonal violence and disasters—kills and disables millions every year, but many of those losses are preventable. Small choices and system changes save lives: follow road rules, use helmets and seat belts, avoid distractions, keep vehicles and roads safe, and learn basic life support so you can act during the Golden Hour.

Share this message to raise awareness. If you drive, ride or walk today, make safety your priority.

- Wear helmets on two‑wheelers and seat belts in cars.
- Never drive tired, impaired or distracted (phone down, eyes up).
- Keep vehicle maintenance current: brakes, lights, tyres.
- Take breaks on long drives and plan trips to avoid night fatigue.
- Carry a basic first‑aid kit and learn CPR/BLS skills.
- Obey speed limits and traffic signs; use pedestrian crossings.
- Support safer infrastructure: sidewalks, lighting, separate lanes.
- Encourage phased renewal of old, unsafe vehicles and proper safety tech.
- For organisations: invest in road maintenance, clear signage, well‑lit junctions and separated lanes.
- Volunteer in or support local trauma-care and prevention programs.

𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿: prevention + prompt care = fewer deaths and disabilities. Act today to protect yourself and others.

Attention, parents! Be cautious when providing vehicles to your sons or daughters under the age of 18 or allowing them to drive. Strict penalties are now in place for parents who permit children below 18 years to drive two-wheelers or four-wheelers or buy vehicles for them. Here’s the official court ruling. Let’s stay mindful and safe! 🙏

Many California drivers don’t know CA laws—e.g., that since 1 Jan 2023, drivers of all motor vehicles are to change lanes when passing someone on a bicycle whenever feasible, just as they would if passing a car.

We often wish CA DMV Handbook, etc. stressed bike-friendly driving, share-the-road rights of people who bike, etc. (Likewise for #CHP’s #StartSmart and other state driver’s ed efforts!)

If you share that wish—or are simply a California driver—take this SURVEY:

Why? Streets Are For Everyone (SAFE) is doing a research project about #California drivers’ knowledge of #driving laws. SAFE's goal is to have data on what laws #drivers retain after taking their CA #DMV driving test and what newer laws they're aware of. SAFE states that “once the survey is completed with sufficient responses, it will be used to propose legislation about how CA DMV should provide #ContinuingEducation for new and existing #driving laws.”

Streets Alive Darebin: January 2024 - Darebin street safety projects under threat

It's up to Berlin's authorities – Manja Schreiner take note – to make sure the city's roads are safe for cyclists. There are absolutely no excuses – it doesn't matter how many car spaces it takes or how many motorists it pisses off. Cyclists shouldn't be dying to keep motorists happy.

And no, Manja, cycling helmets are not the answer. Keeping trucks and cars off cyclists is the answer.
