Tell me using street design how much you DGAF about pedestrians #VisionZero #Vision60or70something

#SWTFpdx west of Terwilliger. This entire street is a perfect example of wasting space and money we don't have for #YellowCenterlines which tell drivers to go faster and that they own the space, meanwhile we expect them to be "careful". #AdvisoryBikeLanes would be a better use of the limited space and funding, let cars "share" the middle.

This block of Taylors Ferry between Virginia and LaView was supposed to have a protected bike lane years ago. Why is this stuff so slow to get onto the ground? #SWTFpdx #pdxBikes #Vision60or70something

@crowdotblack the #SWTFpdx useless sidewalk-blocking pole on the connection between Virginia and LaView, that's one of the few quiet and gentle ways up this ridge except for this block. (I think there is a SWIM project slated to glue some plastic sticks and maybe even curb into that massive car lane and scootch the yellow line over a bit for a #pdxBikes way)

News from @ShawneMartinez that #SWTFpdx speed limit has been lowered to 30mph... What year is it? #pdxBikes, #VisionZero, and #ClimateAction plans should have Taylors Ferry Rd's yellow centerlines removed and made a 20mph #AdvisoryBikeLanes years ago. Why are Engineers so confident in the abilities of drivers to go fast safely and yet #PBOT is afraid to move their safety plans forward any faster than a streetcar stuck in traffic?

This #chokePoint is how you combine #trafficCalming and safer #crosswalks, with more cost-effective #EdgeLaneRoads. Instead of #YellowCenterlines forcing people on bikes to "share" with cars, two-way car traffic shares one center lane. The #AdvisoryBikeLanes can be used for two drivers to pass each other, but by default, those spaces are dedicated to people walking and biking. (SW 45th, #SWTFpdx, so many streets need this, not blinking lights and victim-blaming.)

holding my breath for #CompleteStreets but it's looking like we'll need $30M per mile and a really big pipe to pave 1/4 of the land area in SW #Portland 😲 Or we could divert some of the cut-through car traffic back to freeways and arterials, remove yellow centerlines from most streets (especially those without sidewalks #SWTFpdx) and stripe wide edge lane roads with choke points for cars to share a center lane every block or so. Vote for me on your Oregon Transportation Commission ballot. 😉

How does our TSP designation of "Neighborhood Collector" fit with #SWTFpdx Taylors Ferry being basically just more freeway lanes? How about if it's also a City Bikeway but has no bike lanes or sidewalks? As for the $4B backlog: there's no way the net cost of this #pdxTraffic is less than a dollar per VMT. $30 dollars per minute for this intersection alone? 💸 #transportation #InducedDemand the #RobertMoses freeway plan lives on in our failure to manage surface-street traffic.
