1. Everyone supports #GloballyInclusive handles in principle. Strongly.
2. There are big holes in the #ActivityPub architecture around handles. See <https://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-swicg/2026May/0001.html> for a taste. Probably specifications need to be improved if non-Latin handles are to work well.
3. I got strong encouragement to join #W3C Social Web Incubator Community Group https://www.w3.org/community/socialcg/ and show up for the design discussion and spec writing. I have done so. I subscribed to the public-swicg email list. You folks might want to consider joining also: it's free, and works with any time zone.

Taskforce Proposal: Internationalized "handles" from emelia on 2026-05-01 ([email protected] from May 2026)

@blog Insightful post. People in the SWICG geosocial task force are trying to turn your third strategy's hope into help. We’re writing explainer docs for implementing specific user stories, which has instigated work on a few related missing pieces to make federated Foursquare possible. It’s gonna happen!

There was supposed to be a ForumWG meeting this week, but due to low turnout, and the fact that most threadiverse implementors couldn't actually make the meeting time, I have decided to indefinitely postpone the monthly meetings in favour of discussions on @forum-wg directly.

Note once again that the new address is @forum-wg — the old address (@[email protected]) will publish a Move to migrate its followers at some point to this new address.

Hi all, just a note that ForumWG meets on the first Thursday of each month.

The first Thursday of January is... 1 January... and as such I don't think we will be meeting this month

See you all next month!

Social Web Foundation partner and ActivityPub working group member Meta has shut down the accounts of more than 50 mainstream advocacy organizations providing reproductive health information and LGBT support, across its Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp networks. Among the groups targeted are Women Help Women and Sex Talk Arabic, which provides Arabic-language content on sexual and reproductive health.

In response, SWF Research Director Evan Prodromou strongly condemned - nah just kidding, he's still collaborating with them
