@[email protected] If you want you can, installing OpenBSD is lot easy than Gentoo/Archlinux but after of course you need to read handbook/wiki/guides/youtubetutors, the most thing you shouldn't give up on process I tried many disdros and on many of them I stuck when I first saw OpenBSD I got confused there wasn't apt/pacman/xbps even #sudo wasn't there it was #doas and pkg_add not systemctl it was rcctl and many other. But what i did to learn these I just tried, no one stand by me and teach what to do I just asked around in #irc community, wiki pages, youtube guides, it became my new hobbie, day by day, now I'm running my own OpenBSD vps I got my own #got server it is minimalist alternative of #git version focused on security by default, I got my own email server, even this account runs inside of it, Whole message I want to deliver to you is keep trying, you don't need motivation to achieve you just need to want it, Do you ever notice ants? How they act when they cannot reach on top of smthing they trying another way until they reach on top they just keep trying. If you stuck somewhere reach to us, we're together anytime glad to help you.

How can I override the sudo being used by ansible for a given host?

I have a number of hosts running Ubuntu in a lab managed by ansible. Ansible is used to upgrade and install specific deb and apt packages. I've just upgraded one to 26.04 LTS. The upgrade caused a

4. to test bad blocks on hard disk on Linux, sudo pv -nb /dev/sda > null or replace /dev/sda with the device identifier of your hard disk.

The errors will print in dmesg (comfortable viewing with command dmesg -TL=always|less -R).

pv may need to be installed as a separate package usually called pv.

It doesn't have a menu entry Menu->System->Hard Disks->"Check bad sectors on your hard disk".

It doesn't even have a menu entry Menu->System->Hard Disks->"Display instructions how to check bad sectors on your hard disk from command line", which I assume would be much easier to implement than the actual menu function, and almost as useful for me.

Kíváncsi leszek, mi lesz a vége!

@BrideOfLinux I enjoyed your article – thanks. Discovered three months after publication via <https://vermaden.wordpress.com/2026/05/04/valuable-news-2026-05-04/>.

Just one thing:

"… Isn’t this exactly what the Open Source Security Foundation was established to handle in the wake of OpenSSL’s difficulties?"

I 'm not certain. The roadmap at <https://openssf.org/about/> begins:

"The OpenSSF strategy is outlined across three key areas:

We will be a Catalyst for Change, we will Educate and Empower the Modern Developer, and we will be an Ecosystem Leader. …"

There's much more than a roadmap – and I didn't attempt to digest the charter (it's difficult to read, with the watermark) – it's difficult to tell why the OSSF was established, and so on. I don't doubt that the Foundation does great work, there's just a lot to take in. @openssf

In the case of sudo: I imagine that the media was a catalyst for change. Some time between mid-February and 3rd March, the plea for sponsorship disappeared:

(I recall reading the article in The Register, which was discussed in Reddit <https://old.reddit.com/r/programming/duplicates/1qwsvh9/sudos_maintainer_needs_resources_to_keep_utility/>, and so on.)

The truth about #sudo: https://security.stackexchange.com/questions/232924/is-sudo-almost-useless

> Sudo has no real security purpose against a malicious third-party. [...]

> In the past I believed it was actually a security control to prevent escalation of privilege and make attacks harder [...], but that's actually false. [...]

> The only purpose of sudo is to protect you from yourself, that is, to avoid messing up your system by mistake

One of sudo's co-author also gives his opinion, go check it out!

Is `sudo` almost useless?

Once an attacker has a shell as your sudoer user (or just compromised a local process enough), he/she can use one of the many privilege escalation tool to even automatically put themselves for exam...
