Seit Monaten bin ich hin und her gerissen zwischen einem Sovol sv06 plus ace und einem Elegoo Centauri Carbon und kann mich nicht entscheiden 🀨

An blunt advice for #3DPrinting:

If you want to diy, look into #Voron designs, RatRig, ProForge 300 and others.

HOWEVER if you just want a printer that works, from a company that won't fuck you over, buy a #Prusa. Period. Their attempts at OSI-non-compliant licenses are a piss in the ocean compared to what #BambuLab, #Creality, #FlashForge, #Elegoo, #Anycubic and even #Sovol have been done or are still doing (to be fair, with Sovol it's mostly trashy customer support).

@geerlingguy I'm 69 years old and was an attorney for 40 years, many of which were spent in litigation. One thing I've learned:

You fool me once, you dumbbell.
You fool me twice, me dumbbell.

Built a custom exhaust flange to vent 3D printer fumes out a windowβ€”designed in FreeCAD using parametric modeling and printed on a Sovol SV06 β€œACE”. Includes model, slicer settings, and lessons learned (including what not to forget πŸ˜„).

With my new Sovol SV06 β€œACE”, I learned the hard way what the Y-belt tension dial does πŸ˜„

Too loose β†’ ~20 mm layer shift mid-print.

I used Gates Carbon Drive to tune belt β€œtwang” frequency, then built a stress test suite to validate motion stability:

Exploring the Debian (Bullseye) system inside my new Sovol SV06 ACE 3D printer.

SSH access works and the default account has root privileges.
Looks like a Rockchip RK3308 board running Klipper + Mainsail.

Before printing anything I'm making a full OS backup and inventory of what's installed.

Anyone else poking around inside the SV06 ACE at the system level?

Hey @clayton,

Re: https://claytonerrington.com/blog/2026-w03/,

Are you still thinking about getting a #3DPrinter? What brands are looking good to you? I've got some recommendations and contra-recommendations. I'm a big fan of #Prusa because of their (mostly?) #OpenSource stance on things, although I've been decently happy with my #SOVOL printer, which was both inexpensive, and also mostly open.

I'd recommend staying away from #BambuLabs, as they're trying to become the #Apple of #3DPrinting, and I absolutely mean that as an insult. XD

Re: Laptops really being "portable computers," I recall [referring to] the Classic all-in-on Macs as laptops, so I guess that should work both ways! ;)

We met family members for the holidays who recently began #3Dprinting, and we discussed #3Dmodeling. They use a nice Bambu Lab printer; it operates in a walled garden with cloud services in China which would be a deal breaker for me.

Long story short: I discovered #CadQuery for parametric design, and soon noticed that the market for 3D printers is saturated... I ordered a cheap refurbished #SOVOL SV06 which mostly runs OSS. It arrived today, on new year's eve!

There is lots to learn.
