#science #sobp2023 also I am unreasonably pleased that the symposium I organized and chaired was standing room only!! Never had that happen before--apparently we tapped into a hot topic without realizing it. But it does feel good to have a session you organized be a success. 😁
#science #sobp2023 so thinking more about Dr. Altha Stewart's talk--the woman's a powerhouse and a role model and if you get a chance to meet her/hear her/work with her on health equity issues, drop everything and DO IT. She is someone who is not afraid of complexity and who doesn't fold up when an issue is multifaceted (as health disparities are!), but tackles it head on. As she said, "When I see change is needed, I become president and change it." 🀣 That got a laugh, but seriously...

#sobp2023 #science The fellow who wrote this review--Dr. David Nutt--was the opening speaker at the Society of Biological Psychiatry meeting, and he was phenomenal. This paper is open access so you can see what the pro psychedelics movement in psychiatry is saying! (it is written for experts on the brain, but ask me if it doesn't make sense and I'll do my best. I'm hopeless with organic chemistry but I can do ok with other aspects...)

#sobp2023 #science I am greatly encouraged by the number of plenary or keynote presentations by women at the Society for Biological Psychiatry, and the number of panels with either parity or a straight majority of women speakers. πŸ˜€

We still have a lot to do in other dimensions of representation, but it's a strong showing for gender. Which is a strong step in any medical field, and Psychiatry is no exception!

Hey #SOBP2023. My lab is hiring for multiple roles, including a #ResearchScientist and post-doc. Check out our website or DM me to learn more http://thedunnlab.com/hiring . We do work in psychiatric genetics, the epigenetics of depression & baby teeth as markers of early life stress.

#sobp2023 I feel like I got to have lunch with Martin Luther King Jr or the Dalai Lama.

We had Dr. Altha Stewart (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Altha_Stewart ) as the speaker at the conference today.

This is a woman who stands with one foot in medicine and another in justice and fights for both.

This is a woman who has run massive public health programs and has no fear of arguing for health equity to governors, legislators, or the local barbershop. This was one of her slides, a hint of her approach.

#sobp2023 what I was trying to post was this, that was lurking around a corner in the conference center... Running into that on the way to the bathroom was definitely a "WTF??" moment...
#sobp2023 #psychedelics David Nutt speaking on the neuroimaging of 5HT2A agonists (Psychedelics)--fascinating stuff! He pulled it together from the synapse to the system level to argue for the cortical organization effects, knocking out the modular organization of the adult human brain and allowing a reboot or a defrag (that part is metaphorical). 🧠
#SOBP2023 opening session for the 2023 Society of Biological Psychiatry conference!
"Healing outside the box"--aka the #psychedelics session! the photo is the lineup of the opening speakers on psychedelic medicine.

Super super excited that our symposium (spearheaded by the lovely @DaveKoop, not on this website yet?) was accepted to #SOBP2023 this year. as a 2 academic house Alice has to come with me, so if anyone is going to want grumpy snuggles & obstinate coloring time for an hour do let me know : ) she will be 3!
