Tomorrow is #TrinitySunday. My hope is to preach long enough so that they’ll be so thoroughly confused they won’t notice any heresies I might have slipped in.

We kick over to a single service at 9:00 for the summer beginning today.

I now have two parishioners on hospice. Went to visit the latest one in the hospital this morning. I told him he was going to miss Pentecost services tomorrow, and that we’re going to one service at 9:00 for the summer.
I then said, “You’ll miss a great sermon—I’m going to get drunk and speak in tongues 😂😂”

I thought he was going to literally die laughing. Thankfully he didn’t.

It’s #Easter7, the Sunday after #TheAscension. Theologically speaking, it’s now up to us to live into the life and ministry of Christ. We need to get better.

My current diocese has a local ordination process for people discerning ordination calls.
I got a request from the Dean of the program to take on an intern. I did this when I was in MD, I enjoy the process and helping people with the whole thing, so I agreed.
HOWEVER…..This one is going to be a challenge. She has told the COM that she thinks she does everything well and has no weaknesses. She’s quit the racial sensitivity program because it “blames white people for everything.”
So we’ll see how this goes.

I’m on a delayed #BarWeek because of vacation last week. Hanging out at the diviest of the bars last night and talking with a patron, another over-served patron hollers at me from the end of the bar, “How much do I need to pay to be a good Christian??”

I said, “Nothing …. That’s not how it works.”

We have an aumbry/tabernacle (depending on how you define it). It’s used to hold consecrated elements and oils (search “church tabernacle image”) if you don’t know.
We also have an organist who spent most of his life in the Congregational Church.
He was asking about the things on/around the altar and I pointed and said, “That’s the aumbry.”
He replied, “Is that the coffee pot thing?”

The gospel for this Sunday, #Easter3A is from #Luke and is the Road to Emmaus story.
There’s a bit where they approach the town and Jesu keeps walking as if to go on ahead. The two disciples urge him to stay because it’s getting late.
That’s always intrigued me.
By my count, there are three other stories where angels/Jesus are invited to stay because they act like they’re passing by:
1) Abraham invites the three men to stay and eat;
2) Lot invites the two angels to stay with him rather than in the town square;
3) Jesus walking on water intends to pass by the boat, but (I guess) gets in the boat to prove he’s not a ghost.
The sermon will address this issue of inviting people in.

On #GoodFriday we got a pretty good snowstorm that shut everything down. Today is sunny and cold, but it seems like everyone who couldn’t get to the #FoodPantry last week is showing up today. Can’t say as I blame them.

#EasterVigil is in the books. Had a decent turnout, we didn’t burn the building down, and the church smells like incense.
It’s the best service of the year.
Breakfast between services was great, and now the down time until the next service starts.
