1st day of the year was very mild. So shall the first weekend of the year with more rain on the way.

Details on your forecast, along with more on becoming a #Skywarn #stormspotter, in tonight's @WDEFNews12 exclusive video #weatherblog #WeatherOvertime.

I bought a cheap #Baofeng for my dad, a UV-7B

He wants to listen to the local #Skywarn repeater near him

I'm gently encouraging him to study and take the exam for the Technician license sometime over the next year (hopefully before July 2026, when the question pool changes)

I also have a book on order that I'll be giving to him for the holidays

I think he would enjoy talking to local folks with this handheld, he likes to "shoot the shit" already which will be good for rag-chewing, lol

@BakerRL75 Good morning! Less than half an inch of snow so far, but more on the way. Everyone is watching the storm track closely - how much warm moist ocean air we get is really going to impact statewide snow totals. Five radios / nine channels running, #SKYWARN hat on!
@BakerRL75 Good morning! Yep, first big storm of the season with up to 10 inches in midcoast Maine, likely less here. All ready to test out our new #SKYWARN team & procedures, as well as our shovels.

"The necessary time and resources required to plan a comprehensive national event for SKYWARN™ Recognition Day 2025 are not available this year. Thus, the difficult decision was made to cancel this year's event by the #NWS."

SKYWARN Recognition Day 2025 Cancelled

The American Radio Relay League (ARRL) is the national association for amateur radio, connecting hams around the U.S. with news, information and resources.

#NWS has cancelled #SKYWARN Appreciation Day for 2025. This was where they acknowledge SKYWARN Volunteers, many of whom are #hamradio operators. These volunteers are the Eyes In The Real World during weather events, and usually are giving the most timely and meaningful updates on things like tornadoes.

This is horseshit.

Traditionally, on this day every year, volunteers try and contact as many other volunteers as they can, using any and all methods available. Not now.

We are in severe weather season #2. Time to get ready.

If you can't make it to the in person #Skywarn training sessions offered by local National Weather Service personnel, @NWSMorristown now offers a virtual #StormSpotter training website @

This is what the #trumpshutdown looks like. #tornado warning but no #SKYWARN ! #hamradio volunteers like me depend upon support from the #NWS.

Starting at 6:30 PM CDT, NWS Nashville will be holding the latest of their virtual #Skywarn training sessions, free and open to the public.

Rain fade on the #N8DUY 145.15- weekday morning roundtable in Ann Arbor MI. A lot of sizzle on the signal, challenging conditions in general. The repeater has very good wide area coverage and people were getting in from the northern Detroit suburbs as usual.

Thanks to Jim #W8STX for running the net, and to the taxpayers of Washtenaw County for supporting emergency management; the N8DUY repeater is also used for the ARPSC public service corps net, SKYWARN, et al.
