I'm job hunting and considering moving from "big tech" to the public sector. Sent my resume to the City & County of SF.
Did this partly on a lark (always wanted to work for #SFMuni ever since I was a kid; I'm probably not cut out to be an LRV operator but everybody needs computers!). Also, a month ago my employment seemed unstable and I wasn't getting much of anywhere looking for a job like the one I have, so what the heck...
Anyway, they liked my experience enough that they (after an appropriately long interval for a city bureaucracy!) and said the next step would be to take a qualifying exam.
I know software but I have no idea if I know what's on that test.

Control panel of the streetcar I just posted a picture of. This is with a "close-up" attachment that makes the focal distance 3ft.
The shot is through a plexiglass shield which was dusty and a little scratched but that very precise focal distance helps make it not interfere. And I don´t have to worry about autofocus locking into reflections :)

#SFMuni PCC streetcar. This is a "fantasy car" painted for the (historical) Market Street Ry. The MSRy wanted to order PCC's but were pretty broke by the time they were invented.
I should have stood just a smidgeon farther back to get the top of the pole; oh well.
The focus gets pretty soft in the left edge. I think this is not just because it's at the edge of the frame (the right edge is fine). People talk about simple box cameras having a focal range of 10'-to-infinity but distant objects are often a little blurry (which can be ok) so I think the depth of field may not actually stretch to infinity.

Tried to take a friend on a cable car today, cable car was where it was supposed to be so we bought passes, activated them, and then the worker came over and said they’re not running today. Where could I have found this information out before spending $14 on a pass??? #SFMuni
