Spatial Data Science across Languages (SDSL) 2026

2026

At the #SDSL dev day today, experimenting with #pyogrio to address #Trajectools issues. Thanks @jorisvandenbossche for sharing your experience! πŸ™

Test using Arrow for QGIS to geopandas conversion

In an attempt to speed-up (and make the conversion more robust, eg regarding datetime/timezone conversion and null values (https://codeberg.org/movingpandas/trajectools/issues/93)), we can try to use Arrow. Since QGIS currently does not support exporting a layer to Arrow, here is a test workaroun...

This is just wild!! Thanks to the amazing work of @kylebarron on his #python package lonboard, and @paleolimbot on nano- and geoarrow, we can now leverage blazing fast arrow data transfer from #rspatial #rstats sf types to the browser using deckgl (rendered on a leaflet map). Below is an example of more than 1 million building footprints, rendered in less than a second!! I am beyond excited about this! #sdsl
I'm really happy with this as one outcome from the Spatial Data Sciences across Languages (#sdsl) workshop in Prague this week. Not glamorous but could save time + resources: Docker images for #Rstats and #Python now ~1GB lighter than before πŸŽ‰ Thanks @prefix_dev 4 support, and please, anyone brave or with Docker/Devcontainer experience, give these a spin, nearly ready for launching cross-language #geocompx projects πŸš€ https://buff.ly/3zr3kPq

Spatial Data Science across Languages 2024 - Prague

2024
I've got this working before and it's basic stuff, but definitely feeling a 'wow moment' getting cross-language geo equivalent of "Hello world" working with #RStats and #Python locally AND remotely with GitHub Actions + CD. Next-up #julialang? Slides: incoming! #geocompx #sdsl
Looking forward to upcoming #sdsl2024 session by @loreabad6. Excellent #reproducible slides: https://github.com/loreabad6/post #SDSL #geocompx.

Coinciding with the Spatial Data Sciences across Languages (#sdsl) workshop, I've released a new #opensource template for creating, auto-deploying and sharing #reproducible slides. Works with #RStats, #Python and more thanks to Quarto! See https://buff.ly/3zqQj8D and #sdsl talk incoming πŸš€
