Morning all. I've been building up the next batch of my SAA1099P Soundchip Interfaces for #RC2014 and compatibles, so these are ready to ship! I've updated the community links with more of the videos/demos that have been appearing using it, plus resources for creating SAA1099P music online (Borik's SAA Tracker) which can export #Z80 code. This tracker appears to be heavily based on E-Tracker from the #SAMCoupe with a couple of expansions.

I'm also updating the PCB style of my popular SID Soundchip Interface for RC2014 and compatibles to match the style of my newer SAA interface, so it includes a little PCB computer of the #C64 where the SID is from! Another old soundchip or rather melody chip in this case, that I picked up in Tandy in 1989 and soldered up in a circuit once I had an iron and had been taught to solder during a couple days of work experience at an electronic company during high school. This was the first microchip I'd bought, exciting times!

The chip is the UM3482A which has 12 tunes built in and 3 instrument waveforms. Sadly, I don't have the packaging or datasheet any more, but this is still my original bit of stripboard from back then. It's had the odd running repair over the years to resolder the wires and the push button switch has been replaced once.

Borik's SAA1099P Tracker:

From first glance it appears to operate identically (although slightly expanded) to E-Tracker from the #SAMCoupe (the most popular tracker on SAM Coupe computer. Borik's tracker can import E-Tracker music).

The tracker exports Z80 code of the music ready to play for SAM/Spectrum, however it's also perfect for the SAA1099P interface - the code has a INIT routine to CALL at the start, and a PLAY routine to be CALLed 50 times a second.

[If using on RC2014/compatible hardware my SID Soundchip Interface has an interrupt controller for 50/60/100Hz interrupts that can be used - ideal for all #chiptune / #demoscene code timing!]

This back issue focuses on sound on the #SAMCoupe computer, with its SAA1099P soundchip and various expansions that was released for it, including my own Quazar Surround soundcard back in 1995.

The issue was remade in full colour and professionally printed when updated for the 'Synthesized' show at the Centre for Computing History in Cambridge last year. Includes Audio CD with a variety of tracks recorded from the SAM Coupe showcasing what it can do and some of the audio software.

I now have the latest revision of my Quazar Surround soundcard (which gives the SAM Coupe some rather extensive sample playback capabilities - six sound channels and surround sound outputs!) listed on eBay. It's also on my quickshop page with options for floppy disk or SD card for the introductory software.
