Listened to the radio program below.

Got to 24:20 mm:ss before things clicked.

Former ICE attorney Ryan Schwank had joined George W. Bush's newly formed DHS in 2001. Because he felt it was the right thing to do.

Then I realised I'd misjudged this gently spoken, well educated, son of a Guatemalan migrant.

Seeing now I've been so pickled in a para-fascist culture that I can't pick a fascist.

One key part of Mr. Schwank's testimony is how he describes the pressures inside of ICE to go from hiring+training 500 cops per year to the 3.6k they did in 2025.

This has led to graduating EVERY trainee cop no matter how badly the failed in academic training exercises or preliminary real world patrols.

According to Schwank, legal instructors like him used to be able to fail a student and if the failed exams/training twice they could be kicked out.
