I have already written about some things like male rape culture and non-existent labor rights in modern Russia. But now it is time to talk about something that is unfortunately quite known for everybody – xenophobia.
In order to understand xenophobia in Russia, you must at first ask a right question – Russia is an ultra-right fascist tyranny, which mass media is a death-cult, chanting for a nuclear holocaust for outsiders everyday. So how the society inside Russia has not collapse so far?
Key components why this all “works” are egoism, alienation and contempt to each other. If people have some real way of communicating like a meeting – you will end up with xenophobic pogroms in no time in Russia. So, it is essential to split propaganda on several levels and provide in addition to xenophobia - alienation, egoism and contempt in order for people to be separated and to hate each other alone or inside families.
So how does Putin’s mass media provide alienation? – It can’t just say – sit alone and don’t talk to anyone, can it?- Fearmongering around frauds and “madmen” or “addicted” will do the trick. They will tell you all about maniacs, insane or madmen, committing crimes to make you fear a person near you. When someone has lost all his lifesavings due to some fraud – they will tell much more and spread this info everywhere. Their most favorite part is to blame Ukrainians for it, without any proof. Distrust on a basic common level to everyone except the state – that is the idea.
What about egoism – you can’t just say – think only about yourself all the time to people, can you? – But you can easily make people doubt themselves, make them do everything to prove that they are up to the image, that you artificially constructed and project onto them. Just start lying about payments for different work and do it systematically. “A simple worker gets 10 000 USD a month (in fact they don’t) or a Nurse 7 000 USD (of course not!)” – says Putin’s mass media. But, people that don’t have such payments for their jobs will start to blame themselves for it. A wife will tell a husband – other get 10 000 USD, and you don’t! This will lead to a game of lying to everyone about finance, loans and criminal violations while situation only gets worse and worse.
What about contempt? – here a Putin’s regime use an entire arsenal of neologism slurs like scuffs (that means middle aged man), a special human-hate style of all the news in TG channels. “a 72-year old nutcase was riding his scrapvagon with a corpse of unfortunate doggy and scaring everyone.” – a little example from some popular Russian news tg channel with millions of subscribers of what I mean. It is like a cult – if something bad happens, it is always a person who is to blame, not an ideology, system itself or economic circumstances.
And it leads to such cases as this – “When I see someone, who is not in expensive white shoes, I really want to kill that man, because he is nothing.” “We should deport those gypsy thugs, because they are not participating in war against Ukraine!” “I have found a new job, and as everywhere a collective is just a circle of hell” – some quotes from Russia just a couple days before. And a “good old” stabbing attack in a mall from last week is a cherry on top, when a guy attacked random civilians with a knife and then said – I did it, because I just hate all the people. Yeah, this time they make his motive public – you may guess why.
Egoism contempt and xenophobia go hand in hand. When people deep inside knew, that they are doomed for poverty, but desperately try to show everyone (but first and foremost themselves), that they are rich, when they don’t trust anyone and ready to attack other person for hair color or even the color of shoes – that is the extreme level of E.C.X. That what you have in Russia. Young and elderly are especially susceptible to it. Protect your democracy well, comrades. Because If your country turn into ultra-right fascist tyranny like Putin's Russia - you will have same atmosphere as well. And life in it is NOT sunshine and lollypops.
