Hunger by Design Trump: GOP Policy Cost a Senior 28 Pounds as she starved from SNAP loss

A legally blind senior lost 28 pounds because she couldn’t afford food. Trump/GOP SNAP cuts, rising prices, and policy choices reveal a system failing the most vulnerable.

#Bildeston is not *that* near #Ipswich - its a good half hour drive from the town, an hours bike ride if you are fit/brave enough (maybe 45 minutes on an e-bike?) and has little public transport.

It only has a population of around 1100.

If 110 families are being helped by the #foodbank, assuming the average UK family size of 2,36 - thats 260 people so *24%* of the village population are having to make use of it.

This is a significant level of #RuralPoverty, approaching that of the same village in the late 1600s, when 33% of the population were in the village #workhouse

My grand-aunt and uncle with their four children, two of them newborn twins, in 1948.

A couple years later all the kids would be staying with my dad's family. After a very difficult pregnancy she spent weeks in the hospital because "her insides fell out."

She eventually recovered and went on to lead a normal life.

Sweet jeeeeezus,-31 C here today. We only have one frozen water pipe. It's gonna be rough on a lot of people in my poor community. If my ancient vehicle starts, then I will try to get around to check on people.

Our local Foodbank in Wareham Dorset UK is in pretty dire straits at the moment.

Like lots of rural towns, behind the cute historic appearance there are high levels of poverty and social depravation exacerbated by poor housing and non existent public transport

Shopping in my small town grocery store a couple of days before US thanksgiving and seeing elderly people picking items off the shelves, checking the price and putting it back. These are not rich people. These are, in fact, poor elderly people on fixed incomes. We can't keep our community pantry shelves stalked with essentials.
