In Frederica Rowan's #Biography, she writes,

"Recovering from his #Momentary #Weakness, Olaus [did] for #Botany what he had for #Anatomy.
He [created] a #Botanical #Garden...
[and when] #Admiring #Visitors #Gathered [there]...

#OTD Olaus #Rudbeck, #Swedish #Botanist, died.

The year he died, his #Town, Upsala, had a terrible #Fire. His #Home & #Private #Collections burned as he helped #Save the #University #Library.

28 years later, Carl #Linnaeus named the #Rudbeckia, or #BlackEyedSusan, after his old #Professor.

Linneaus wrote,

"So long as the #Earth [survives] and each #Spring [is] covered with #Flowers, the Rudbeckia will preserve your #Glorious name."
