I need to see more C-drama* because I find this theme of Uncovering Secret And Ancient Knowledge fascinating. Back From the Brink and Word of Honor both subverts the trope; in BFtB they spread the secret to everyone, and in WoH the knowledge turns our to be outdated. I'm curious to see what happens here!

If everything else fail, fall back back on costuming to 'show, don't tell'. Not that we've been left hanging until now, but that topknot decoration is certainly in a size of its own.
I mean... I _should_ take this at face value, but after seeing vloggers recording the Absolute Humongous amount of firecrackers people burn in China at any given festival, I'm beginning to believe that this guy's hearing is normal - everyone else is just slightly deaf.
Also, if I ever get the chance to visit China I need to schedule the trip during the most boring season available - I've a terrible fear of sharp explosions 😭
These actors are way better than their dubbing. Not sure if it's a timing issue from the overlay or rushed recording sessions, but all characters pace their lines like cpt Kirk trying to Sound Normal on an undercover mission
And I wish Chinese production companies (+ the state) would realise that a lot of episodes is a strength. This is a 12ep drama, and it crumbles under the reductions. Still enjoyable, but you can see the ghost of what could have been

Normally when canon rubs you the wrong way you solve it with fanfiction AU, but for tiles? I don't read fanfics, so I have no idea whether the masonry section on AO3 is bustling with activity or not.

Is... is this actually filmed at night time with badaboom blaster floodlights* for the actors? Or (2nd best) in a studio with balanced darkness and light? I'm _so_ _tired_ of the black-blue filter that gets plastered over night scenes - it looks friggin' weird! A+ choice for this production!
