Here's a fun exercise. I mentioned Roy Hargrove's earfood yesterday. One track, Mr. Clean, is Freddie Hubbard's, here in its original version (Hubbard/George Benson/Ron Carter/Jack DeJohnette/Herbie Hancock/Joe Henderson/Richard Landrum)::
Here's the version from earfood:
And here's a live version (Hargrove/Justin Robinson/Sullivan Fortner/Ameen Saleem/Montez Coleman):
The Roy Hargrove Quintet - earfood
Easily streamed, and found on CD, but the only place to source it on vinyl is Japan.
However you get it, this 2008 release, with his touring quintet, is a delight from first (Cedar Walton's I'm Not So Sure) to last (Sam Cooke's Bring it on Home to Me).
(Gerald Clayton, on piano, is all over modern jazz LPs, including his own, and always on point.)

Roy Hargrove's Crisol - Grand-Terre
There are so many personalities to the late Roy Hargrove's composition and playing, and in Crisol, it's all Afro-Cuban hard bop.
Crisol's first LP, Habana, came out in 1997, and for some reason this follow-up wasn't released until last year.
As with a lot of this stuff, it's not because it isn't great!
