I've been hooked on a #rougelike autobattler called DWARVES: Glory, Death and Loot ever since I saw DangerouslyFunny play it.

Gear selection is always my favorite part of a roguelike so this really scratches that itch. The only thing you can do during fights is let them do their thing or run away so I get to devote my whole brain to gear and squad composition.

There are two things that really make it stand out: the very cleverly designed difficulty options and the rune circle metaprogression system. I'll explain both in comments because they're interesting but you should definitely check it out.

Also, it's solo developed by a German speaking guy (Austrian) so it reminds me of Fedi friends.

This is probably a fundamental design challenge of having a story-driven #rougelike. You either need to end the story at first completion (which demotivates the player from repeating) or continue the story and find a way to progress the mechanics in line with narrative tension.

Clearly the devs went with the second option, but I'm not sure it quite lands the right narrative hook or mechanical change to keep me invested.

I'll probably play at least a few more runs, but I suspect its more due to my desire to better master the game mechanics rather than the narrative.

Those who like #BeatEmUps and do not mind or like #RougeLike elements should absolutely look a the absolutely gorgeous #Absolum, the latest game of #GuardCrushGames and #Supamonks, published on #DotEmu. Fully playable with 2 players. Game is out now, physical release arriving on October 17th. Runs perfectly fine on #Linux.
