I chickened out of a group walk this morning because of the wet weather forecast. It brightened up in the afternoon so I walked across to Cragside. Quite a change from a couple of weeks ago when they were turning people away, hardly anyone was there. I tried the scone of the month, savory cheese and marmite! I loved it but I expect it will divide opinion.
When the water goes down there'll be a tree stuck in the stepping stones.
The river in Rothbury is the highest I've seen it since early spring. These waves are caused by stepping stones that are well submerged.
Rothbury Bridge is only a couple of hundred metres away so the frequent winter periods when they are submerged are not a problem.

The rain from earlier this week has left the Coquet high, but today is lovely and sunny. Ideal for a morning walk.
The Railway Hotel is going to be auctioned with a pretty low guide price of Β£180,000

However I think the purchase price will be a lot lower than what it will cost to make something of it, the interior was videoed by some "urban explorers".

I hope something can be done with it. It's a fantastic stone building in a prime location. However it has previously been refused planning permission to convert into multiple flats as it has very limited parking spaces and roadside parking is always busy on the middle of the village.

There's a patch of Access Land to the south east of Rothbury. The path up to it used to have white birch railings, but these fell down a year ago. The path has now become quite overgrown to the point where an unofficial path about 100 metres further along the cutting is easier.

Earlier I was going to walk across the stepping stones and return by the bridge. I ended up taking the bridge both ways!
