Judge’s Decision Tomorrow and Pledge Update!
Dear Supporters, The stay hearing concluded late this afternoon, after a full day of argument from all parties. The judge announced that he will render his decision tomorrow, Wednesday March 11. Those wishing to attend should aim to arrive at the Rossland Courthouse no later than 1:15 PM. We encourage another show of support through your presence, if you can be available. As to the amount of pledges we received to cover potential damages, more than 150 community members have come forward, pledging just over $170,000 towards potential payment of damages, as well as giving additional donations. We cannot express our gratitude and the love we felt as pledge after pledge and each donation rolled in. The huge amount pledged by the community was critical to our case today. This is yet another extraordinary demonstration of the community’s commitment to protecting Record Ridge. In another notable expression of community support, there were more than 170 members of the public in attendance for the start of the hearing! This filled the main court room, the full balcony, and then an overflow room. Our counsel and others present indicated that this may be one of the largest public turnouts for a court hearing in BC history. Rossland has certainly shown our true colours, demonstrating our passion and concern for this cause. Once we hear the decision tomorrow we will provide further information to those that have pledged their support as to the next steps. At this time we are no longer asking for additional pledges. With that said, donations remain extremely helpful, as this stay proceeding has cost us a great deal. Donations are welcomed through our GoFundMe or by e-transfer to [email protected]. Challenging the province on this matter is no small task and it is your continued support that makes this effort possible. Here’s to a positive outcome tomorrow! SRRAC

URGENT: Community Pledges Needed Tonight
Dear Supporters, Day 1 of the stay hearing went well, and ended particularly strong. The judge has indicated that granting a stay or injunction to stop the mine from going ahead will likely depend on our ability to post security for potential damages, which are costs to the company arising from the delay, if we end up losing the judicial review. While no amount has been set, the judge has indicated that the $60,000 we currently have is insufficient. Our legal counsel has suggested that we be able to commit to an additional $50,000 by tomorrow. To get there, we’re asking supporters to pledge their support. We have been setting this up in the form of an interest-free loan. If we win the eventual judicial review - and we believe that our chances are good, we return the funds. If we lose, the loan would be forgiven and the funds would be used to cover the damages. Amounts we are seeing so far are in the $3,000 to $10,000 range. If just ten supporters pledge $5,000 each, we’re there. Pledging is as simple as telling us how much you can commit to in an email to [email protected]. The loan agreement paperwork and funds transfer would follow in the next week or two. This really is a moment of truth. If we can’t show the additional funding, we think that the judge will allow the mine to proceed, at which point a successful judicial review may not even matter. One last thing, we are trying to get the pledges in tonight, but if you get this late or just need more time, we will be checking messages through the day tomorrow. Thank you for whatever you're able to provide. With immense gratitude, The Save Record Ridge Action Committee
