The Romsey Saxon Rood. A low-relief limestone carving depicting the Crucifixion in a style associated with Anglo-Saxon England, located in Romsey Abbey ( a former nunnery before the dissolution). The carving dates from C10 and may have been in the original church on the same site that the Normans replaced. The Anglo-Saxon style of the times was to depict the living Christ on the cross. Traces of gold and silver have been detected on the carving, suggesting that it may have been a gift from a wealthy benefactor of the time. Romsey Abbey, Romsey, Hampshire, England. August 2025.
