Calcio in lutto: è morto a 80 anni Mircea Lucescu, tra i più importanti allenatori rumeni di tutti i tempi con un lungo trascorso in Italia dove ha guidato Pisa, Brescia, Reggiana e Inter. Per due volte ct della Romania, Lucescu ha vissuto l'apice della sua carriera allo Shaktar Donetsk, dove tra il 2004 e il 2016 ha vinto 21 trofei nazionali ucraini oltre alla Coppa Uefa 2008-2009. Come ct ha allenato anche la Turchia.

Venerdì scorso Lucescu era stato ricoverato all'ospedale universitario di Bucarest per un infarto. È stata proprio la struttura sanitaria della capitale rumena a comunicare il decesso, ricordando Lucescu come uno "degli allenatori e giocatori di calcio rumeni di maggior successo, il primo a qualificare la nazionale rumena per un campionato europeo, nel 1984. Intere generazioni di romeni sono cresciute con la sua immagine nel cuore, come simbolo nazionale".

Football in mourning: Mircea Lucescu, who died at the age of 80, was one of the most important Romanian coaches of all time, with a long career in Italy where he coached Pisa, Brescia, Reggiana and Inter. Twice national team coach of Romania, Lucescu experienced the peak of his career at Shakhtar Donetsk, where between 2004 and 2016 he won 21 Ukrainian national trophies and the 2008-2009 UEFA Cup. He also coached Turkey as national team coach.

Last Friday, Lucescu had been hospitalized at the University Hospital of Bucharest for a heart attack. It was the Bucharest capital’s healthcare facility that announced his death, remembering Lucescu as “one of the most successful Romanian coaches and players, the first to qualify the Romanian national team for a European Championship in 1984. Entire generations of Romanians grew up with his image in their hearts, as a national symbol.”
