The inscription reads "VIBIO PROTO LIB VIBIVS SENECA VIR P PRAEF CL PATRONVS" which translates as "To Vibius Protus, freedman; Vibius Seneca, a man of perfectissimus rank, prefect of the fleet, (his) patron (set this up)." Also, a photo of the discovery of the sarcophagus in 1967.
