Not sure where I’m going with this picture other than experimentation and distracting myself from awful US political news. I’m used to using pen, ink & watercolor but I’m also trying #PoscaMarker and hacking inexpensive Japanese roller pens to replace the ink with #RohrerUndKlingner waterproof ink. I made the mistake of rendering the #classical Greek column too wide at the base but decided I like the look.

Site was used for filming the #DowntonAbbey series.

Hacking an inexpensive Japanese rollerball pen to accept waterproof #RohrerUndKlingner “Lotte” ink so I can apply #watercolor wash to sketches without bleeding. After the first ink swap it’s still not totally waterproof but I’m using it. I think by the second swap it’ll work better.

Obviously the key to this is avoiding getting black ink all over the place.

I’ve always had a thing for trolleys, probably a result of riding the route 23 streetcar down Germantown Avenue in Philadelphia in my youth. Sadly, SEPTA discontinued that trolley service and ripped up some of the tracks.

Sketch of Chiesa Madre, Sicily. I attempted to sketch in the Drawing + Painting style advocated by Felix Scheinberger. It makes sense when I read his book but it’s harder when actually doing it. I need to break my habit of constructing too much with lines early in the process.

Sketches of the Cathedral in Reggio Emilia, Italy front & back views. I’ve started researching the urban situations that I sketch and using a cheap thermal printer to attach fragments of the history scrapbook style.

There are layers of religions and architectural styles. Residence of a wealthy Roman citizen w/ pagan floor mosaics, Romanesque church, Baroque partial facade, sculptor as architect.
