Some of the pretty rocks collected from the recent trip to #LakeSuperior in various places that allowed collection. For the uninformed, it is illegal to collect rocks from within the designated Pictured Rocks shoreline.

Anyway, I haven't identified all of them yet, but they're cool regardless. And some of them have fossils which are always neat to find.

This was taken on a trail near Wright Street Falls shortly after I went through Marquette, MI. I had changed out of my skirt into hiking pants. There's a cliffside to the left that's basically a steep drop to the brook, but there were some cool rocks down there, and you can guess what I did. That's right, I found a ball of slag glass the size of a small cannonball. It's a satisfying weight, but not pictured here.

Instead, I wanted to share this tree root system that is visible due to the fact the soil is minimal and it's basically on a huge boulder that's slowly fracturing by the roots getting all up in there. I love seeing things like this. Slow, steady, persistent life in the face of insurmountable barriers.

One day I'll be smart about it and get some outdoor pictures that include some of my rope art. Until then you'll just have to keep getting both in separate posts.

Here is a picture of a rock formation on the west side of Grand Island near Munising, MI

I really like the texture here carved from the wind, ice and waves that invariably crash against this cliff. So many nooks! The moss and lichen were thriving in this environment which made me happy.
