Geständnis: Mit dem „Fräulein Smilla“ hatte ich eine leidenschaftliche literarische Affäre. Ich kann mich zwar beim besten Willen nicht mehr daran erinnern, wo ich das Buch von Peter Høeg gelesen habe. Doch daran, wie ich es an einem Stück aufgesogen habe, erinnere ich mich, als wäre es erst gestern gewesen. Merkwürdig ist das schon, oder..? (ARD, Wh.)

Just watched "The Garment Jungle" that is more of a pretty good "On the Waterfront"-wannabe than it is a film noir. But it got marvelous FACES in it that you don't get in films anymore.

A ★★★ review of The Garment Jungle (1957)

Looking at the cover for this in the Indicator Colombia Noir #1 boxset (and it's title) you would almost think it is a giallo. Even the first kill in the elevator feels like something out of a nightmare and the film is set in the zenith location for the perfect giallo: the world of fashion. After that the similarities ends (except for the visual influences noir in general had on giallo) and we get the noir we came for. But The Garment Jungle is closer to On the Waterfront than any conventional film noir so I would recommend this if
