Black Uhuru and King Sunny Adé at the Greek Theater in Berkeley, September 1983

In September 1983, I went to the Greek Theater in Berkeley for a double bill of Black Uhuru from Jamaica and King Sunny Adé and His African Beats from Nigeria. I remember the King Sunny Adé concert for the layers of guitar rhythms that he and his band produced. I

Long Life is a reggae album by Prince Far I, released in 1978 through Front Line. "Black Starliner Must Come" is about Marcus Garvey's Black Star Line.

AllMusic wrote that "the rhythms are provided courtesy of a studio band made up of members of both Soul Syndicate (notably the killer bass-and-drums duo of Robbie Shakespeare and Sly Dunbar) and Roots Radics, and they are, without exception, as solid and heavy as a bag of boulders." - Wikipedia

Sly & Robbie; The Sixties, Seventies + Eighties = Taxi; 1981 on Mango

Great collection of songs produced by Sly Dunbar & Robbie Shakespeare, whose production company and label were both called Taxi, released on Mango which was an Island Records subsidiary focused on Caribbean artists.

Great covers of Herbie Hancock’s “Watermelon Man” and the Lennon-McCartney “I Should Have Known Better” as well as some more traditional ska and reggae classics.

My latest vinyl discovery is this wonderful reggae album by #DelroyWilson released in 1978 and reissued in 2021 by Radiation Roots.

#SlyDunbar and #RobbieShakespeare both play on it, as does the late "Family Man," #AstonBarrett from the Wailers.

When I saw the cover photo, I knew I had to have it... and Delroy Wilson's rich, soulful vocals made it a huge score.
