It was released as an (edited) #single on Capitol 2635 in November 1969 and reached No. 25 on the #Billboard Hot 100. "Up on Cripple Creek" was written by Band guitarist #RobbieRobertson, with drummer #LevonHelm singing lead vocal. A 1976 live performance of "Up on Cripple Creek" appears in the Band's concert film #TheLastWaltz, as well as on the accompanying #soundtrack album.

"The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" is a song written by #RobbieRobertson. It was originally recorded by his Canadian-American #rootsRock group #theBand and released on their eponymous second album in 1969. #LevonHelm provided the lead vocals. The song is a first-person narrative relating the economic and social distress experienced by the protagonist, a poor white Southerner, during the last year of the #AmericanCivilWar.

Dylan’s first album after leaving Columbia for Asylum Records, with The Band as the backing group, and his fourteenth overall. (The only other was Before the Flood – both were later reissued by Columbia).

Includes not one but two version of “Forever Young” – fast and slow – along with “Going, Going, Gone” and “On a Night Like This.” Recorded in LA at Village Recorder and produced by Rob Fraboni.
