The Irk goes under train and tram lines near Scotland in central Manchester, where a Jacobite army is thought to have massed, thus the name. I have seen kingfishers very near here!

The Junction Hotel/Inn, later known as the Hellfire Club at Smedley, North Manchester, photographed in 1906 and 1966. I did not take either photograph, as was not alive in either year! It is now derelict.

I saw a dipper today in the Irk at Smedley Vale. Sadly the photo is a bit crap. Seconds later, I saw another one, possibly the first one's mate. I have seen dippers many times before, but never in the Irk or one of the rivers that go through Manchester.
