Bike news, for anyone keeping up with my #Rivendell savings: I have changed my bike goals!

After much thought and (so) many YouTube videos, I'm choosing to save for a #Brompton electric G-Line, instead. Yeah, this model is actually more expensive than the Riv. But it's SO much better for my situation as a person with chronic health issues. I can ride out from home (with the assist that helps me so much already on my current e-bike) and if I need a ride back, I could easily fold it and step on a bus or into an Uber. This scenario has happened several times so it's a real concern, not a theoretical.

I can also take it into stores and appts. with me (the very real risk of a Riv getting stolen has become increasingly stressful over the last few months).

I had a Brommie years ago, and it's one of the few things I've truly regretted selling. So the normal-bike-to-Brompton adjustment won't be an issue, I've done that already.

Dream bike update: The saving up for the #Rivendell (in the spring) is going okay, but I’m beginning to have second thoughts about the idea, based solely in the threat of it getting stolen.

When I imagine locking it up to go into the grocery store, I wonder how long I can safely be in there. In an appointment, where I can’t dash out? Even worse. I’ve lost two beloved #bikes to theft and they were FAR less attractive (and expensive) than a Riv.

Any #BikeTooter folks have reflections on this?

I unironically think the Rivendell OM-1 is the most sensible rear derailleur for a cargo bike. Rapid rise sounds like an absolute necessity when you are likely riding around with 200+ extra pounds on you. If your shift cable snaps, you don't want to be stuck in your highest gear as you try to get yourself back to base. I told myself I wasn't gonna go too fancy on my derailleur, but this one just makes too much sense.
