My all-time favorite Rival Schools tune was either a B-side or not officially released at all, I'm not sure; they posted an MP3 of it on their web site in 2001 and I downloaded a copy, and then lost it a couple years later in some digital migration mishap

then I couldn't find it again for years. I think I ultimately wound up asking a stranger on a forum if they'd be willing to share it 🥺 (they did)

Listening to #rivalSchools for the first time in a long minute

the web had gotten big enough by the turn of the millennium that you could sometimes do a "wonder whatever happened to" search for a band or artist and get hooked up. In this case I searched for info about Quicksand and/or Walter Schreifels and that led me right to his new project, which IIRC had a pretty slick web site, and I picked up a used copy of the CD not long after (I think mine is a promo)

Anyway, great album, one with strong place+time memory associations for me. I remember being sad not to be able to share it with college friends I'd fallen out of touch with
