In under two years, SKORTS went from conception to one of the most talked about and in demand local bands in New York. Their sound has been described as many things including psych-glam, post-alt and darkwave disco. Their live shows have become a crown jewel of the NYC & Brooklyn music scene, winning them 'Our Wicked Lady's 2024 Winter Madness' and also earning them the number one spot on the 'Ohmyrockness Hardest Working Bands List of 2024'. They have received coverage from Paste, PAPER magazine and many more! The band has played just about every club in Manhattan and Brooklyn, some of which include Webster Hall, Brooklyn Bowl, a sold out Bowery Ballroom and a sold out Racket (Chelsea). Geleitet von ihren süßen Launen, segelt Laventure auf dem verträumten Vibe von Men I trust, den elektrischen Impulsen von Prince, fl irtet mit der Helium-Fantasie von Connan Mockasin. Wo Spaß und Unschuld großzügig und offensichtlich sind, taucht eine Unterströmung auf. I have mixed feelings about 'Riot Women' myself. I feel it's a bit 'M&S'/bland, which may be due to the way TV has to be packaged for streaming services these days. Outside of the UK who understands 'gritty Northern'?

I also get the frustration about the lack of central queer - specifically lesbian - characters.

OTOH, for all this writer's nostalgia about the 90s riot grrrl scene, that wasn't a 'generation' of lesbians. It was a cult scene for a minority of (overwhelmingly) white women and was more of a US thing.

From what I remember, most gay/bisexual young women in the UK were listening to queer-friendly mainstream pop and rock.

And there WAS still a lot of exclusion of women in music - usually via them not being taken as seriously as men, especially when it came to playing instruments. All the women she lists were primarily singers.
