In the third game today I was in a comfortable lead in the last round, but then the dealer ronned a haneman and got really close to me

I was planning to get a quick cheap hand, but then the dealer got a kokushi

And then finally I got a quick cheap hand (open ittsuu nomi) finishing second, packed my set and went home

Fun moment at the mahjong meetup today: 3 players in riichi, except me and another player had the exactly same shanpon (AABB) wait, so there was no way either of us could have won

Holy shit it happened! My very first Thirteen Orphans! I had a very good starting hand for this, as I ended up calling Riichi waiting on the North Wind on my second discard. And I wasn't in the North seat, which made it clear that I was most likely gonna get it at some point, because "Well of course I'm not gonna get Ron'd off of a North Wind".

This was also the second round of the game, so no one had enough points yet to survive having to pay 32000 points.

I haven't won a game of Riichi Mahjong on either Riichi City nor Mahjong Soul in a few days. What a way to win for the first time in a while!!!

Welp. I had a bad streak in Mahjong Soul and have too few copper to play in anything but the Bronze Room now (I am in Gold). I never knew that copper disappears if you lose a bunch. So now I either have to play Bronze room for a while (not fun for me nor for my opponents that are genuinely Bronze) or pay Mahjong Soul real money for copper. The game is essentially holding itself hostage unless I either don't have fun for a while or unless I give them money.

Secret third option is saying screw this and going to Riichi City permanently (I was playing both so far). Which is what I'm going to do, unless I find out City also locks you out of the game if you don't do well for a few days.

Doesn't seem like a good strategy for Soul to shoo away their players, though. Unless they're like "Well if they're not gonna give us money to keep playing, they're not gonna pay for the gacha either, so as far as we're concerned, they might as well stop playing, we don't care".

I just had a Mahjong game in which I had 4 consecutive rounds with me trying a half flush or full flush in the bamboo suit. And it's not like I was forcing it for the bit, I just genuinely got a lot of bamboo all those times.

There was even almost a fifth. The only reason I didn't go for it, despite having all bamboo except 3 tiles of characters (and nothing of circles) was because the 3 tiles of characters were 2-3-4, so that was a completed sequence that I didn't wanna break apart for the greed.

Still, 4 rounds alone is crazy enough.

Just learnt about another strange Tenhou rule:

サドンデスルールは、30000点(供託未収)以上になった時点で終了、ただし親の連荘がある場合は連荘を優先する

That is, sudden death ends once a player has 30k or more, unless there was a double ron (or an exhaustive draw) with the dealer being one of the winners and the dealer not being in first place afterwards, in which case the dealer repeat takes priority
