One does not simply riichi when someone has two pons of dragons
Hi everyone,
Just decided to give this whole mastodon a chance. I come from the land which everyone seems to forget, Belgium. My hobbies include playing mahjong -despite not being very good at it-, coding more specifically anything to do with p2p software and networking and recently dipping my toes in freebsd. Excited to meet you all! Hope to find some more nerdy people, learn a ton and maybe play some matches!

We're having a club tournament today, and I'm not doing great
In the last game I went for a yakuless tenpai and missed a 2000 points chankan, because I forgot that was a thing
(It went to a draw, and I was the only one tenpai, so I ended up getting more points, but still)
I think this needs said one more time:
you don’t need to pay to play mahjong.
There are clubs and meetups all around that would be happy to have you join them, whatever flavor you enjoy (American, Riichi, Chinese). You don’t have to buy a seat or be part of a special society. Just play!

Back when I started running the mahjong meetup in 2023 there were several times where only one or two other persons would come. Now we often have 5 tables running with 20 people
