i did sound the alarm about the #MAGA #Republican #GOP prisoner buying scheme uncovered in Puerto Rico in 2018; which became yet another grievance that triggered #RickyRenuncia. that was the weeks long #GeneralStrike of 2019 that ended up ousting the governor of #PuertoRico ―the first ever ousting of a governor by the people in the history of La Isla and the United States.

just wanted to point out, #RickyRenuncia started as one organized protest with the intention of it breaking up into smaller manifestaciones across the island and over time, EXACTLY BECAUSE A GENERAL STRIKE WOULD FAIL.

most workers in Puerto Rico are NOT unionized. it’s boneheaded to ask individual workers to lose wages or their jobs.

yet another example of meeting people where they are.

for the straight-laced normies in the back,

perreo isn’t just twerking. it is done with the least amount of clothing you can get away with.

perreos en Puerto Rico are off shoots of vogueing, so the mix of people you find in a perreo are mostly LGBTQI folks. these are trans-inclusive, sex-worker inclusive, public spaces carved out by way beyond dirty and truly indecent dancing.

THIS IS WHAT MEETING PEOPLE WHERE THEY ARE MEANS.

and it’s why #RickyRenuncia was successful.

the point of all of this is that, people were protesting and expressing their discontent from where they were.

it was protest at all times, everywhere, anywhere by everybody.

THE 2019 #RickyRenuncia PROTESTS IS WHAT MEETING PEOPLE WHERE THEY ARE LOOKS LIKE.

and that means EVERYBODY.

there were no respectability politics to be had. every day, en la calle San Juan, the one bordering La Fortaleza, a perreo ―La Isla’s answer to twerking― would take place in protest:
