On this day in 1959, a plane called “American Pie” went down near Clear Lake, Iowa killing four passengers. Among them were Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and ‘The Big Bopper’ J.P. Richardson. It was Rock and Roll’s biggest loss. 😢

Buddy Holly at the age of 22, Richie Valens at the age of 17 and "The Big Bopper" at the age of 28 were all killed in a plane crash near Clear Lake, Iowa alongside the pilot Roger Peterson (21).
