Donald Trump has repeatedly claimed that Citizen Kane is his favourite film...But Trump’s own comments about Welles’s film over the years suggest his grasp of its plot, let alone message, is slippery at best...
Trump labours under the misapprehension that Kane ennobles, even tragedises, extreme wealth, and mostly uses Morris’s film as an opportunity to horn in on some of that tragic nobility.
