I think one of the things that has made our car-clotted culture and the prospect of shopping for a new car in 2026 a misery is that growing up with my copy of the #RichardScarry book Cars and Trucks and Things That Go led me to expect driving to be a whimsical, joyous thing, and not the pathetic herdlike lumbering of gigantic, soulless SUVs in the glum color palette of funeral suits. Yuck yuck yuck.
