A ★★★★½ review of Child's Play 2 (1990)

I can't exactly explain it, but despite knowing that the first film is a much better directed and produced film, I've always liked this sequel more. Maybe it's that we get more of Brad Dourif giving Chucky his voice and attitude, or maybe it's the fact that the mom is Jenny Agutter from An American Werewolf In London and the dad is Gerrit Graham who I will always love for his portrayal as Beef in the criminally underappreciated Phantom Of The Paradise. Or it could be the sibling relationship between Andy and Kyle. It just all adds up to be

A ★★★★ review of Child's Play (1988)

And onto the next series marathon. While this first iteration of Chucky plays out more like a mystery (at least for the first half) it never really feels like the type of slasher movies that the series would go on to deliver. In that regard, it's much different than what would come later. But the direction of Tom Holland, once again teaming up with Chris Sarandon makes for a fun watch. And the fact that they were able to make the effects look that good in 88 still blows my mind.
