The printer restoring fluid might be the same as something I have. I was first introduced to it repairing laser printers 30 years ago - pickup rollers and other rubber parts in the paper-handling path that had "dried" or become dirty and would slip, causing paper jams or failure to feed.

The stuff I have is made in Canada by MG Chemicals. It's called "Rubber Renue 408C" (there have been other formulations in the past with different numbers). The active ingredient in it is methyl salicylate, which is pretty harmless - it's used as a food additive. It's in an IPA base.

The way it works, I'm told, is that it temporarily swells the rubber and opens its pores, which allows trapped dirt, dust, and other contaminants to be washed away, restoring the friction properties and swelling it a bit, fixing shrinkage from age. I've also used it on capstan rollers and other rubber parts in the past.
