Georgia judge sets $1 murder bond for woman accused of illegal abortion

A Georgia judge has granted a bond of just $1 for a murder charge faced by a woman accused by police of taking pills to induce an illegal abortion. Superior Court Judge Steven Blackerby called the charge “extremely problematic” as he set the bond Monday for Alexia Moore. The 31-year-old Moore who was jailed for nearly three weeks in Camden County. An arrest warrant obtained by police says Moore arrived at a hospital complaining of abdominal pain and said she had taken a drug used in medical abortions. The warrant says the fetus survived about an hour after being delivered. A 2019 Georgia law bans abortion after about six weeks of pregnancy.
